No Suction | How to Videos | SmartClean® Canister Vacuum

There are a few reasons your SmartClean Canister Vacuum is having suction issues. We’ll walk you through the fixes in these videos.
  • First, make sure your vacuum is turned off and unplugged.
  • Dirty filters and a full dirt tank can cause suction issues.
  • To clean, remove the dirt tank from the canister by pressing the dirt tank release button.
  • Empty the dirt tank by pressing the button at the bottom of the tank.
  • Close the lid once debris is cleared.
  • Twist the top of the dirt tank counter-clockwise and pull up to remove.
  • Remove the separator from the dirt tank and rinse it to clean.
  • Remove the foam and felt filters from the tank lid.
  • Both can be rinsed to clean. Make sure to let the filters and the separator dry for 24 hours before replacing.
  • Once dry, replace the separator and both filters. Make sure the felt filter is inserted first. Then insert the foam filter.
  • Return the dirt tank lid and turn it clockwise into place.
  • There’s also a filter on the base of your machine. To remove it, push the tabs inward and pull out to remove the back cover.
  • Remove the mesh filter.
  • This filter can be rinsed to clean, just make sure to let it dry for 24 hours before replacing.
  • To replace, align all four tabs with their slots in the filter.
  • To clean, remove and rinse it under water.
  • Be sure to let it dry for 24 hours before replacing
  • Once it’s back in place, reattach the filter cover so it clicks into place.
  • Put the dirt tank back on the machine. It should click into place.
  • Next, check your machine for clogs by first disconnecting the hose.
  • Remove the plug on the bottom of the base.
  • Insert a broomstick to clear clogs. Replace the plug
  • Plug your machine back in and turn it on to check for suction at the hose connection
  • If there’s suction, turn off and connect just the hose to the base. Turn it back on and check the opening at the end of the hose where it should connect to the extension wand for suction.
  • If there’s no suction, the hose is clogged. Attempt to clear debris from both ends of the hose. If you’re unable to clear debris or the hose is damaged, you need to order a replacement on BISSELL.com.
  • Look through and clear any clogs you see in the extension  wand.
  • The last thing you need to check is the foot.
  • Make sure the foot is removed from the extension wand.
  • Use a flathead screwdriver to remove the neck from the foot. Clear any debris you see.
  • Once debris is clear, reassemble the vacuum.
