My ProHeat 2X® doesn't spray. What can I do?

Answer:

If you'd like to watch a step-by-step video for Troubleshooting assistance, you may click here

Otherwise, these are step-by-step pictures to assist as well.

We’ll start by figuring out where your carpet cleaner can spray. Check for spray from the hose and at the floor. If you have spray at just one of the two, you can scroll down to find troubleshooting steps for your situation. If you don’t have any spray, start here:

Make sure you’re only using BISSELL® formula with your ProHeat 2X® - it’ll keep your machine in tip-top shape

1. Some ProHeat 2X®carpet cleaners may have an In-Line Filter. Please check the red filter in the location below by removing your Water Tank and follow steps a-e below. If you don’t have an In-Line Filter, move to the next step.

  1. Safety first! Make sure your machine is turned OFF and unplugged.
  2. Next, remove the Water Tank and set it aside.
  3. Remove the red solution filter cap by inserting a coin or flathead screwdriver into the slot in the top. Turn it counter-clockwise to unscrew it and set it aside.

3

d. Remove the white filter by grabbing the stem and pulling up and out of the unit. Rinse the filter under cold water. Note: Be careful not to drop the filter down the sink or disposal.

e. Replace the filter into the unit, making sure it’s seated properly. Replace the red cap and screw clockwise to tighten into place.

2.  Next, check the tanks in your cleaner.

  1. Make sure the tank lid is properly attached to the bottom tank. This step should be performed without water in the bladder or tank.

Be sure the 2-in-1 Water Tank lid is correctly attached to the tank bottom by hooking the nozzle in the groove at the front of the tank bottom before securing the tank lid with the grey latch at the back of the tank. If the 2-in-1 Water Tank Assembly can be lifted by the Handle without the tank lid separating from the tank bottom, the 2-in-1 Water Tank is properly assembled.

6

b. Make sure the auto-load gaskets are in place and the tanks are seated properly. This step should also be performed without water in the bladder or tank.

Check the bottom of the 2-in-1 Water Tank and the SmartMix® Formula Bottle to make sure each has a red rubber auto-load gasket attached and facing outwards. If the gasket is missing, check the base of the machine to make sure they’re not stuck to the base of the unit. If you find them in the base, remove and re-attach to the Water Tank or Formula Bottle (a flathead screwdriver or pliers work well).

c. With hot tap water in both tanks, hold them over a sink and press upward on the x-valve to see if the tanks release water.

The x-valve is located at the bottom of the tank. (The red gasket is attached to it.) If the tank releases water, go on to step 3. If it doesn’t release water, the tank isn’t working properly. Click here to get a replacement tank

  1. Now, check to see if the hose can spray.
    1. If it does, move to step 4.
    2. If it doesn’t, remove the tool on the end of the hose, then check again.
      1. If the hose sprays when the attachment isn’t connected, the tool is clogged. Try cleaning out the spray-tip tool with a paper clip. If it still won’t spray after you’ve cleaned it, you may need to replace the tool.
    3. Stretch the hose out and give it a few light tugs to release any kinks in the internal water supply hose.

4.  If that doesn’t work, you’ll need to test the cleaner with another tank.

    1. First, set to water rinse.
    2. Then, remove the SmartMix Formula Bottle and fill it with water.
    3. Place the Formula Bottle into the collection tank reservoir (see photo below).

d.  Run the cleaner, try to spray the hose, then the floor.

If the unit sprays through the hose, then something’s wrong with the tank and you’ll need to order a new one here.

5.  Remove the spray tip and test if it can spray out of the hoses. (Hoses may be black or clear.) Unplug and power OFF the unit before performing these troubleshooting steps.

a.  With the Clean Water Tank off the unit and the Solution Tank still in place, pop the red or white spray tips out of the base of the machine. There are two ways to do this.

  • Lay the cleaner down so you can reach up under than base between the brushes. Poke your finger between the brushes and pop the spray tip up while pinching the plastic tabs on the top.
  • While pinching the spray tip tabs, a flathead screwdriver or pliers may be used to raise the spray tip out of the base of the machine.

b.  With pliers and a dry cloth, pinch the metal hose clamp and slide away to relieve pressure and remove spray tip. Make sure to leave the metal hose clamp on the hose.

c. Gently stretch the hose out of the machine and lay it on a towel. Take the Formula Bottle, filled with water and put it where the Clean Water Tank plugs into the base. d. If it doesn’t spray, or doesn’t fully spray, you may need to clean the spray tip.To do this, use a paper clip to push through the hole and clear debris. Rinse the spray tip out with warm water. Reinsert the spray tip into the hose, and check for spray. If the spray tip is still clogged, try soaking it in a cup of hot water for about 10-15 minutes to loosen any build-up. Try the paper clip again. Insert spray tip back into the unit and try spraying.

e. If the spray tips won’t clear, and there’s spray from the hose, the spray tip will need to be replaced. Buy spray tips here.
