GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., April 21, 2015 – Through its recent #PetHappens campaign, BISSELL Homecare, Inc. raised $50,000 for pets in need. The 139-year-old Grand Rapids-based floor care brand launched the #PetHappens campaign to educate consumers on helpful ways to eliminate pet messes and support pet causes. From January 1 through February 28, 2015, pet lovers across the country shared stories tagged with #PetHappens on Twitter and Instagram to trigger a donation to the BISSELL Pet Foundation®. Additionally, BISSELL partnered with Ellen DeGeneres to contribute $150,000 towards START Rescue, a Southern California-based nonprofit committed to reducing euthanasia of companion animals. START Rescue is a BISSELL Partners for Pets member (one of over 1,300 BISSELL supports across the U.S.) 

From trash diving to pillows torn to shreds, pet lovers united online to share stories and images of their beloved pets making messes. Thanks to their support, BISSELL was able to raise enough funds to support new organizations that are dedicated to the humane care and treatment of animals through pet adoption, spay/neuter programs, microchipping and foster care. On January 26, in honor of daytime television personality and pet lover Ellen DeGeneres’s birthday, BISSELL presented START Rescue with its $150,000 donation check during a segment on The Ellen DeGeneres Show

“Thanks to BISSELL’s generous donation, START has just committed to one year of spay/neuter for low-income residents in the cities of Colton and Santa Paula, Calif., which should amount to over 600 procedures”, said Rene Ruston, START Rescue co-founder. “We are also sending much needed funding to START receiving groups in Oregon and Washington. BISSELL is making a HUGE difference in so many ways.” 

Each year BISSELL donates up to $500,000 to the BISSELL Pet Foundation, a nonprofit organization committed to supporting groups dedicated to the humane care and treatment of animals through pet adoption, spay/neuter programs, microchipping and foster care.
