GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., ― The eighth annual BISSELL Blocktail Party® is coming to Mangiamo!’s lawn from 6-9 p.m. on June 12. The BISSELL Pet Foundation’s biggest fundraising event of the year features music, ‘yappetizers,’ a silent auction, and mingling with animal lovers and their four-legged friends.

Funds raised will be allocated to West Michigan shelters and rescues by the BISSELL Pet Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to supporting animal welfare organizations and their efforts to reduce the number of animals in shelters and rescues through pet adoption, spay/neuter, microchipping and foster care initiatives. The Foundation will allocate monies to select local agencies through contributions and grants for programs that align with their mission and address the homeless pet problem in the community. Last year alone, more than $173,000 was awarded to 13 organizations in the Greater Grand Rapids area as a result of this highly successful event.

“We’re fortunate to have so many outstanding animal welfare organizations in our area who dedicate their time to help pets find homes, as well as taking measures to prevent overpopulation,” said BISSELL Homecare Inc. Director of Corporate Affairs and BISSELL Pet Foundation Founder, Cathy Bissell. “The Blockail Party is the ‘BEST DOG-GONE Party in Town’ and a great celebration of those who work so hard for the betterment of our pet community.”

Ten area animal welfare groups have been pre-selected as ‘Blocktail Buddies’ for 2013 to receive a $1,000 contribution before the event, building anticipation for larger BISSELL Blocktail™ Grants available from the funds raised at the 2013 event. Blocktail Buddies include:

  • Crash’s Landing & Big Sid’s Sanctuary
  • Carol’s Ferals
  • Focus on Ferals
  • Safe Haven Humane Society
  • Community Spay Neuter Initiative (C-SNIP)
  • Kent County Animal Shelter
  • Vicky’s Pet Connection
  • Humane Society of West Michigan
  • Reuben’s Room Cat Rescue
  • Mackenzie’s Animal Sanctuary

The BISSELL Blocktail Party committee invites animal welfare organizations that serve the Greater Grand Rapids area to submit a BISSELL Blocktail Grant application by June 3, and businesses/event-goers to donate auction items online. Highlights from last year’s auction, a one week stay at The Palms in Jaco Beach, Costa Rica and an American Dog Sculpture by acclaimed artist Dale Rogers.
