How to Get Rid of Dust in Your Home

How to Get Rid of Dust in Your Home

Dust is a major reason people have to clean their homes so often. Those tiny particles find their way into every nook and cranny around the house. So, what’s the best way to dust? As with many of the cleaning tips we like to give, the answer depends on how deep of a cleaning you’re planning to give your home. If you’re still trying to decide how thorough you’re willing to get, we’ll walk you through all the levels of dusting in this post. So, by the time you’re done reading, we have a feeling you’ll be more than ready to defeat dust around your home and with a method that fits your schedule. And if you’re feeling brave and really want to know the nitty gritty on dust and dust mites, we’ve got some facts here that may have you dusting your home a little more frequently than you already do.

A quick word of warning: cleaning agitates all sorts of dust in your home, especially the stuff that’s not so easy to see. Luckily, a lot of our vacuums like PowerGilde® Pet Vacuum with SuctionChannel Technology® are equipped with a SmartSeal® Allergen System that helps trap dust and allergens, so they don’t get back into the air you breathe.

The first factor you need to consider when figuring out how to dust and what the best duster may be for your home is to pinpoint where the dust is. Since dust is microscopic, the list of places it can land is almost endless. There’s the top of picture frames, lamp shades, blinds, mirrors, tv stands, bookcases, DVD players, and so much more. Pretty much anything in your home that you don’t use or clean every few days runs the risk of collecting dust. Because there are so many places for that dust to collect, we recommend several products and methods to remove it.

Method 1: Keep it Simple

If you want to keep it super simple, this method is for you. It only involves one tool, so it doesn’t get much easier. All you need is our High Reach Duster. It extends up to 14 feet, so it’s great for dusting the more common, but still hard-to-reach spots in your home, like high ceiling fans, high crown molding and under cabinets.

"This High Reach actually reaches up to my 10-foot ceilings. I knew I had some cob webs but didn't realize just how dust[y] the walls and ceilings were. Plus, everything [clings] to the duster and did not shower down on me."* - Christine, 5-star review

But it’s not just for dusting high-reach areas in your home, it also converts to a handheld duster for spots that are easier to see. The High Reach Duster is made with a microfiber pad that attracts dust and dirt instead of just moving it around. And when you’re done using it, you can wash the pad so it’s fresh and ready to go next time!

Method 2: Go Above and Beyond

Almost all of our vacuums come with special tools and attachments that work on so much more than just the floor. We designed these tools and attachments with the hope they’ll make cleaning your home easier. Have you heard about our special dusting tool? The dusting brush attachment essentially turns your vacuum into a motorized dust cleaner. We love using the attachment with our Pet Hair Eraser® Lift-Off® vacuum to clean dust off spots around the home, like lampshades, upholstery and window sills. And because it’s a lift-off vacuum, you can remove the canister and carry it around with you while you dust wherever you see it!

Method 3: Do the Most

For a consistent and enduring way to keep dust at bay, we recommend our air400 Air Purifier. It uses 3 stages of filtration to capture particles, like dust, floating around in the air. But it doesn’t just clean the air you’re breathing; it also keeps you updated on the quality of the air you’re breathing, thanks to a Digital Air Quality Display that gives you quality readings in real time.

"This product is fantastic, no exaggeration, I would say in one week it cut my dusting by 75%"* - Robert, 5-star review

As promised, you can see there’s no shortage of options when it comes to dusting your home. We hope this post helped you find the right method for your family and your lifestyle. And who knows, maybe it even got you to rethink how you go about dusting your home.
