If you look outside, Spring has sprung! The season means a lot of things to us at BISSELL, most notably, spring cleaning, but we’re also excited to celebrate Mother’s Day! Spring cleaning will always have a special place in our hearts, but Mother’s Day is a close second. This year, the holiday comes at an interesting time. Families around the world are spending more time together because of stay at home orders, which can undoubtedly put some extra work on mom (and dad!). Many parents have added teacher to their long list of duties, a list that may already include cooking, cleaning, laundry, and more. So, while making mom feel special this year will be extra challenging given the current environment, it’ll be worth it if you’re able to pull it off. We’ve got a few tips and tricks to help!

No matter what stage in your life you’re in, we can all agree moms do so much for us. Only having one day to celebrate them really doesn’t feel like enough. In fact, we should be celebrating mom every day! But, in spirit of the holiday, we have some ideas to help make mom feel extra special on her day. Sure, we make cleaning easy for moms (and dads and pet parents!) with products that help them stay on top of cleaning, so everyone can live in the moment, not the mess. But this Mother’s Day, we want you to get in on the fun. Often, the best gifts are not material things, but instead acts of service – and no one appreciates an act of service more than mom!

We know pulling off a surprise on Mother’s Day may be difficult this year, but that doesn’t mean it’s impossible. The idea is to get mom out of the house. In an ideal world, you could treat her to a day at the spa, but we realize with the current climate, many places simply won’t be open this Mother’s Day. But fear not, there are still many ways to get mom away from her humble abode. Reach out to one of her friends or ask someone in the family to help distract her for a few hours. Once you’ve figured out how to get mom away for a bit, it’s time to get to work.

The goal is to surprise mom with a clean house. So, in addition to planning how to get her out of the house, you will need to plan your cleaning process, too. If you’re lucky, you’ll have a few hours to tackle the whole house. But if you’re crunched for time, we’ve got a few focus areas to zero in on: the kitchen, living room, mom’s room and bathroom. We picked the first two rooms because this is where your family probably spends most of their time together. The only thing mom will love more than spending time with you on her special day is spending it in a sparkling room that she didn’t have to clean! If you can’t take it room by room, try and do the following in main gathering rooms: clear clutter, wipe counters down and clean the floors. The easiest way to get mom’s floors clean quickly is to use a CrossWave® Cordless Max Multi-Surface Wet Dry Vac since it vacuums and washes floors and area rugs at the same time, saving you time.

Sticky Floors

Giving the kitchen a quick and efficient clean is actually really easy! Start by dealing with any dishes left in the sink, wash and put them away, and don’t forget to unload the dishwasher. Once the dishes are put away, scrub the sink and wipe off the counters with a multi-surface spray, like BETTER LIFE® All-Purpose Cleaner. While you’re cleaning the counters, clear up what clutter you can; just be mindful of where you’re placing things, so mom can easily find everything. You can also use that all-purpose cleaner to wipe down the stove, microwave and fridge. The last thing to clean in the kitchen are the floors. We recommend a stick vac, steam mop or one of our innovative CrossWave® Wet Dry Vacuums The finishing touch on mom’s clean kitchen is a fresh bouquet of flowers for her to enjoy for the week to come.

Living Room

Cleaning the living room should be even easier than the kitchen. All you need to do to give mom’s living room new life is fluff the couch pillows, fold the blankets and put away any items that are left out. Use a hand vacuum on the upholstery and furniture and vacuum the carpet and area rugs. Bonus points if you bring over a new scented candle for her to enjoy in the clean space.

Bedroom + Bathroom

Another nice surprise for mom to come home to is a clean bedroom and bathroom. Start in her bedroom by making her bed if it’s not already made, fluff her pillows and run the vacuum for a few quick passes to pick up anything on the floors. Finish things off by putting some candy on her pillow or nightstand.

The surprise would not be complete without cleaning mom’s main bathroom. If she has multiple bathrooms in her home and you have the time to clean them, go for it. If not, just focus on the one she uses the most. A steam cleaner really comes in handy when cleaning bathrooms. In fact, this post walks you through how to clean an entire bathroom with one of our steam mops. If you don’t have a steam mop, use a bathroom cleaner, like BETTER LIFE® Tub & Tile Cleaner to spray and wipe down surfaces, scrub the toilet with toilet bowl cleaner and wipe off the mirrors. Lastly, don't forget to wash the floors with a hard floor cleaner and then you're done!

We hope you found these ideas useful and noticed how helpful BISSELL products can be when it comes to cleaning and letting your family live in the moment, not the mess. Happy Mother’s Day!
