Everything You Need to Do for a Successful Spring Cleaning Season

Our favorite time of year is here. Spring Cleaning for BISSELL is like birthdays or Christmas for other people. It’s what we’ve been waiting for! We’ve given you the way to get into the Spring Cleaning mood. We’ve shared some of our favorite hacks. But this week, we are celebrating all those who look forward to spring cleaning, too. We’ve put all the Spring Cleaning tasks we can think of together into one giant checklist. Keep this list pulled up on your phone or computer, or print it out and hang it on the fridge to check off tasks as you accomplish them. We broke it down room by room to make it a little more digestible, so here goes nothing!

Spring Cleaning Tasks for Every Room

  • Declutter. Put away everything in its right place as you make your way through the house
  • Use your vacuum attachments to clean cobwebs and dust from the ceiling, crown molding, fans, light fixtures, lamp shades, and baseboards
    • Wash light fixtures to make them shine
  • Wash air vents, door knobs and doors
  • Wipe down walls
  • Wash curtains and window coverings according to manufacturer’s tag
  • Clean both the inside and outside of windows, take down screens and rinse them off
  • Dust and wash frames, mirrors, art, and any other decorations hanging on the wall
  • Change batteries in all smoke and carbon monoxide detectors

Spring Cleaning your Kitchen

  • Wash down the hood vent and change the filter
  • Wipe down the stove and burners
  • Clean the oven. If you don’t want to use the self-cleaning setting, try one of our portable steam cleaning products to clean baked on messes
  • Clean the fridge: throw out expired food, wipe down the inside and out, pull it out to vacuum and mop underneath, dust coils (unplug the fridge first for safety), replace water filter
  • Clean the inside and outside of the microwave and replace the filters
  • Wipe down smaller appliances like the coffee maker, toaster, microwave, etc.
  • Wash counters and backsplashes
  • Wash inside and outside of cabinets and organize them as you are putting everything back in place
  • Clean out the pantry: throw away any expired food or spices and wash the shelves
  • Wash sink and clean the garbage disposal
  • Clean the trash can inside and out

Spring Cleaning your Bathroom

  • Scrub the shower and tub
  • Wash the shower curtain and liner, door frame and door or glass enclosure
  • Scrub the toilet
  • Clean the mirrors
  • Wash the sink, faucets and countertops
  • Clean toothbrush and soap holders, cup, shower caddy, trash can
  • Wipe inside and outside of medicine and linen cabinets. Take this opportunity to throw away expired products, safely discard expired medications and restock your first aid kit
  • Vacuum and wash the floor and mats or rugs

Spring Cleaning Bedrooms

  • Wash bedding and pillows
  • Flip the mattress
  • Dust headboards, dressers, desks, nightstands, and other furniture
  • Clean out closets, drawers and other places that could use some attention
  • Clean mirrors

  • Vacuum and wash area rugs

Spring Cleaning your Dining Room

  • Dust tables, chairs and other furniture
  • Clean out that china cabinet that you haven’t touched since Christmas. Wash and dry all the dishes and mementos by hand and wipe out the cabinet while it is empty
    • Wipe out the cabinet while china is out
  • Vacuum and wash hard floors
  • Vacuum and clean carpets and area rugs, pretreating any stains when necessary

Spring Cleaning your Living Room

Spring Cleaning your Laundry/Mud Room

  • Wipe down top and front of washer and dryer and wash the insides
  • Vacuum out the dryer vent

  • Clean and organize shelves, donating or getting rid of things no longer used
  • Clean pet food & water bowls, wash dirty pet clothing, toys and collars
  • Clean out and reorganize purses, work bags and backpacks. Spot clean them and wash, following manufacturer’s instructions

Spring Cleaning your Attic/Basement

  • Donate items that are no longer used and throw away anything that is broken or worn
  • Take a look at your storage system and consider setting up two groups: things that you need in the next year and anything that needs to be stored for longer.
  • Change furnace filter
  • Vacuum and wash the floor
  • Dust in the corners and around furniture and storage areas. Make sure you get those cobwebs in the corners and along the edges
