Last week we blogged about our employee’s favorite products, tips and tricks. This week, we wanted to highlight Cathy Bissell’s go-to products and her favorite stain removal tricks.  Cathy is the tester of all things BISSELL. She knows the products and stain removers inside and out, gives her feedback, and helps to improve the products.

What is your current favorite product?

  • The CrossWave, it’s my go to for everything. For a quick cleanup or to make my house look fresh before having someone over, it is seriously awesome. My dogs basically live in my kitchen. I have hard wood floors with some runners so I can use the CrossWave to clean the entire room from wood to carpet. I honestly use it multiple times a day. I love the smell of the formula, it gives me total satisfaction.

The CrossWave has a few different brush options. Which one do you use?

  • I use the all-bristle brush for my tile floors when they need a good scrubbing. I use the soft bristle-combo brush for everyday cleaning. And I use the soft brush for my carpets, because they tend to be larger loops and I don’t want anything to snag, so the soft brush cleans my carpets perfectly.

What do you do if someone spills red wine on your carpet?

  • Depending on the type of carpet I would grab either the Oxy Stain Destroyer or the Pet Pretreat + Sanitize. I spray the area, let it sit and walk away. I come back later, and depending on the size of the stain, I will use a deep cleaner to really make sure I get the entire mess pulled up. Let me also say that I ALWAYS test the carpet in a small inconspicuous area first to make sure the product does well on the carpet in question. By now I know all my carpets really well and what works and what doesn’t. I will go as far as to take a q-tip soaked in the product and dab it on the carpet to make sure I’m good to go.

Do you have any secret tricks?

  • Not all stains lift in one try, so keeping a stain moist is super important. I keep either a damp towel on the stain, so it doesn’t dry up, or I keep a Stomp ‘n Go pad on it, which releases the product onto the stain over time. I never give up. My dogs have created some messes on my carpet that have taken a couple of days to eventually get out. I really work a stain from all angles and I have a very, very high success rate.

Is there anything else we missed?

  • Stains happen. Being prepared, with all the tools is necessary in the event something does happen, is so important. The longer a stain sits, the harder it is to treat. It takes different products and different maneuvers to lift different stains. I make sure that I always have the basics on hand at all times for whenever the next stain decides to occur.
