BISSELL Homecare, Inc. is always looking for new ways to be in tune with the environment. For our new Pet Hair Eraser® vacuum, we jumped at the opportunity to improve our packaging and make it more sustainable when our Asia based partner, YFY Jupiter Packaging, introduced a new renewable material called Npulp®. YFY’s team of biochemists dedicated 12 years of research to understanding the digestive process inside a cow's stomach. By replicating the digestive enzyme, they can now make paper products from waste straw left behind after harvesting wheat and rice. The n-pulp enzyme breaks down the straw, without the use of harsh chemicals.
Straw is considered ultra-rapidly renewable because crops are harvested two to four times per year in each climate zone. Excess straw, formerly considered waste, is now a cash crop for farmers. Utilization of straw provides sustainable support for overall agricultural development, and produces an ultra-rapidly renewable packaging material. By-products from the pulping process produce organic and nutrient-rich fertilizer that can go back into the field.
Npulp is a win for all sides. BISSELL plans to add this renewable material to more of our product packaging going forward. To learn more about Npulp please visit npulp.info
