Product and packaging design present significant opportunities for advancing BISSELL’s sustainability efforts. We’ve found that incorporating thinking about sustainability into the earliest phases of product design produces optimal results. Sustainable design, paired with our responsible use of chemicals in both product design and manufacturing, has led to advances in our cleaning formulas and durable goods (e.g. vacuums, deep cleaners).
BISSELL introduced a line of 2X Ultra Concentrated formulas in 2009 that offer benefits for you and the Earth. Ounce for ounce, these 2X Ultra Concentrated formulas provide the same cleaning power in half the packaging of BISSELL's non-concentrated formulas. The smaller bottle size makes them easier to carry and reduces transportation resources needed to ship 2X Ultra Concentrated bottles. The smaller bottle made a big difference—it cuts greenhouse gas emissions by 80 percent. The bottle itself is made from approximately 60 percent recycled and reground pellets, and 40 percent new material.
Additionally, all BISSELL portable and upright deep cleaner formulas, as well as 95 percent of our manual formulas contain biodegradable detergents and have no phosphates, dyes, optical brighteners or heavy metals. BISSELL OxyPro® spray utilizes a bag-on-valve constant spray technology that releases zero volatile organic compounds (VOCs) unlike traditional aerosols.
In 2009, we started producing the popular BISSELL Little Green® deep cleaner with a minimum of 50 percent recycled plastic. Your Little Green could contain plastics from a wide range of recycled products including, but not limited to: automotive parts, home appliances (refrigerator panels and air conditioners), or scrapped films. In addition to the 95 percent reduction of PVC used in Little Green®, the packaging contains a minimum of 50 percent recycled content with the packaging itself 100 percent recyclable. We’re committed to expanding these same minimum recycled content standards throughout our product lines.
