My ProHeat 2X® is not suctioning properly. What should I check?

Answer:

Let’s start by figuring out where your carpet cleaner has suction. Check for suction in the hose and at the floor. If you have suction at just one of them, you can scroll down to find some troubleshooting steps for your situation. If you don’t have any suction at all, start below:

1. First, let’s check to see if there’s suction at the motor duct gasket.  (Found to the far right of the wash setting dial.)

a. Make sure the lip of the gasket is not folded inward.

If there’s no suction at the motor-duct, please contact a BISSELL Authorized Service Center. To find one near you, visit our Service Centre lookup, or call 1-800-237-7691. Available 24 hours.

2. If there is suction at the motor-duct follow the steps below:

a. Remove the tank and check the floor nozzle (the long slit where water sprays from). If there are any cracks at all, you’ll need to order a new nozzle. You can do so by clicking here: http://www.bissell.com/floor-nozzle-w-end-caps2037649?productid=9200P

But, if your product is under warranty, give us a call at 1-800-237-7691, Monday - Friday 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., or Sunday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. ET. A representative will be ready and waiting to help you out!

b. If there aren’t any cracks, check the red Tank Lint Screen for debris. If the Lint Screen is dirty, the suction won’t be very strong. Cleaning the screen should improve the suction.

3. Next, check the Ready Tools Dial for the appropriate setting (Floor Cleaning or Tools).  The colored dot on the Ready Tools Dial should align with one of the two options.

4. Now let’s make sure the Auto-Load gaskets in place and the tanks are seated properly. Please be sure there’s no water in the tanks for this step.

a. Check the bottom of the 2-in-1 water tank and the SmartMix® formula bottle to make sure each has a red rubber auto-load gasket attached and facing outwards. If the gasket is missing, please check the base of the machine in both locations for the red rubber auto-load gaskets to make sure they are not stuck in the base of the unit. If they’re in the base of the unit, please remove, (a flathead screwdriver or pliers work well), and re-attach the gasket to the water tank or formula bottle.

b. Please also ensure that the cap is tightened down properly on both 2-in-1 water tank and SmartMix Bottle.

5. Check the 2-in-1 tank assembly for damage or cracks. Make sure the 2-in-1 tank assembly is seated properly to ensure good suction.

6. Make sure the water tank is not full on the outside of the bladder.  If it is, empty the tank.

a. Make sure the tank lid is properly attached to the bottom tank.  To attach the lid, first hook the front lip of the tank lid under the groove on the front edge of the bottom tank.  Then, secure the latch on the back of the bottom tank.

b. To check if the tank lid is secure, lift up on tank handle to see if the two parts detach from each other. This step is better performed over a sink if the tanks aren’t empty.

7. Check to see if the red float flap door, located in the tank lid, is shutting prematurely when unit is turned the unit on. If it is, give us a call at 1-800-237-7691, Monday - Friday 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., or Sunday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. ET. A representative will be ready and waiting to help you out!

8. Unit must be in the locked, upright position and set to the ‘Tools’ setting for suction to occur through the hose.  If handle is tilted back in the slightest while using the hose, it will create a small gap where the handle meets the gasket, above the bottom tank. This will cause little or no suction.

9. If you still can’t get any suction, at this point it might be best to take your carpet cleaner to a technician. You can find your nearest BISSELL Authorized Service Center by clicking www.bissell.com/support/product-support/service-centers or by calling 1-800-237-7691, available 24 hours a day.

Start here if you have suction at the hose but not the floor or at the floor but not the hose:

1. First, double check that your cleaner is set to the correct setting (Floors or Tools).

2. Next, if there’s no suction at the floor, see if the floor nozzle is clogged. If it is, cleaning the clog after detaching the nozzle should increase the suction.

3. Check the red Tank Lint Screen for debris. If the Lint Screen is dirty, the cleaner will have less suction.  Cleaning the lint screen should restore suction.

4.  Now see if there’s any damage to the floor nozzle, tank lid, or tank. Any type of break or crack in these parts would reduce suction.  You can find replacement parts by clicking here: http://www.bissell.com/parts?product-category=Carpet%20Cleaners&product-type=Upright&product-family=ProHeat%202X

5. Check to make sure the end caps are secured tightly with all screws in place.

6. If there’s no suction at the hose –

a. Your cleaner must be in the locked, upright position and set to the ‘Tools’ setting for suction to occur through the hose.  If handle is tilted back in the slightest while using the hose, it will create a small gap where the handle meets the gasket, above the bottom tank. This will cause little or no suction.

b. Next, check the rear cover gasket to make sure it is in place and not damaged

c. Remove tool on the hose by pressing the release button and check for suction at the end of hose. If there is suction without the tool attached, the tool is most likely clogged. Try rinsing the tool while it’s unattached under a faucet to clean out debris.

7. If you’re still unable to get suction, at this point it might be best to take your carpet cleaner to a technician. You can find your nearest BISSELL Authorized Service Center by clicking www.bissell.com/support/product-support/service-centers or by calling 1-800-237-7691 and choosing option #1.
