I can't get this machine to draw up the water left on the carpet. It seems quite a few people have had the same problem. I've gone to the Bissell customer support section and checked everything they recommended. Still I cannot seem to achieve the proper angle that will suck up the cleaning solution. If you ask me, this little machine it dreadfully overengineered. My simple previous machine was quite handy. This one has features in the collection tank to prevent overfilling, but I can't ever imagine being able to draw up enough water to overfill it. It has brushes to dislodge the soil, but that sits on the carpet for lack of suction. I would return but it's past that date.

I'm not sure if the fact that my carpet is a Berber type is the reason but the suction was almost nonexistent. I tilted at 45 degree angle as instructed but barely any water was going into the tank. Tried different pressures and ended up standing up and pressing down on the machine. Had to refill clean water reservoir 3 times and there was probably only a little more than a tablespoon of dirty water.
My large shampooer would have done a better job. It would have been quicker and easier too.
This will be going back.

Rated 1 out of 5 by LogCabinMom Horrible waste of money
I own the 1719 model, and I haven't been this disappointed in a product for a very long time.
I wish I had never bought it. The machine is so difficult to clean, you end up cleaning up more of a mess after than the one you had before.
I've had it since October and used it a handful of times. Yesterday I needed to use it and it just didn't work. I charged it, thinking it was a dead battery, but this morning it also didn't work. Just.didn't.turn.on. At all.
Not even a year old and a complete waste of money.

Rated 3 out of 5 by arlene1943 Nearly impossible to pull out collection tank to empty!
I an a woman with relatively large hands and long fingers. I love the machine, but when it comes time to pull out the dirty collection tank, my hands actually get sore pulling and tugging to get it out. Even my husband with very large hands has a hard time pulling it out, especially since it is usually a little damp after using the machine and rinsing out the tank. I can't imagine they did much customer research when they sized this part of the machine. It should have some sort of release like the solution tank and be narrower. I use the machine at least weekly to clean up after my cats, and it does a good job on the carpet, but I dread when it is time to remove the lower tank.

I have only 'tried' to use this unit once. I bought it specifically to clean upholstery. I was using it for about 15 minutes when I realized the brushes were already broken. You could see little pieces of plastic broken where the gear was. The suction does NOT suck! My chair was wringing wet and I had to dry it off with a towel. The spray nozzle won't stay on which is frustrating. I did call Bissell and they are sending me a new machine. My unit was only 1 week old and this happened the very first time I used it. I hope the new one is better.

I bought this to clean my stairs. I also own a floor model Bissell and have used it to clean my stairs but it's very difficult to accomplish. I cleaned the carpeted stairs today. It took about 2 hours. The cleaner did a good job but would be better with stronger suction. It removed very little of the solution. My carpet is 19 years old. Even after cleaning, the carpet was very matted. I read online about using a steam iron and towel to remove stains. I tried it and it brought the carpet back to life. It took about an hour to do 14 steps. I used a carpet rake after steaming. Now it looks like new. I'm glad I bought this cleaner as it makes cleaning stairs much easier.
