What would you recommend to clean vinyl kitchen floors with dogs around?

4 Ratings

DogKitchenFloorKristen,

I love, own and use all the Bissell products and don’t know what I would do without my Bissell steam cleaner. We have two yellow labs. Can you tell me what you would recommend to use to clean kitchen floors that are just like vinyl (not stone or anything like that). I had read once where if the dogs lick the floor after you clean it they can develop kidney failure. I am always afraid to use anything but want my floors clean too. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Joanne

Dear Joanne,

Wow, a labrador lover after my own heart! (My "Buck" was a yellow lab.)

First, let me bust a myth for you. That rumor about pets suffering liver failure after licking a recently cleaned floor is false! You can read more about the hoax here.

As for keeping your vinyl-like floor free from pet messes, BISSELL's Pet Inspired line of products and the formulas used with their deep cleaners are all "purr-fectly safe" for your pets. Additionally, BISSELL's Steam Mop is fabulous because it simply uses steam for cleaning. This is great for anyone concerned about cleaning residue. Also, my advice is to always follow the instructions on the label of any product. BISSELL's pet products instruct you to "keep children and pets off the cleaned surface until it has dried". Then is it safe for them to use the floor--even lick the floor.

I hope this puts your mind at ease!

You can use Vinegar and water. I have 3 cats and 2 birds. Birds are VERY sensitive to chemicals and this was recommended to be used around Cats, Dogs and Birds y mt Vet.

Yes the vinegar works very well, I also have two dogs and three children, and I love to clean. I am always mopping my vinyl floors and I use a table spoon of baking soda in the bucket, the floors are clean and safe .

I second the vinegar and water. You can add a tablespoon or so of Borax, regular dish detergent, or Castile soap if you want. I have a dog and 2 cats, one of which insists on helping in every aspect of cleaning, so I know how you feel!
