2012-03_pet-foundation_1 Foundation Solidifies the Company’s Commitment to the
Pet Community by Providing Grants and Creating Awareness for Animal Welfare

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., March 10, 2012 ― BISSELL Homecare, Inc., announces the launch of the newly established BISSELL Pet Foundation, a charitable 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with a mission to help every pet find a home. The BISSELL Pet Foundation extends BISSELL’s long-standing commitment to pet adoption and focuses the company’s efforts on providing grants to charities supporting the humane care and treatment of animals.

“We have been working with many animal welfare organizations across the country for more than a decade and have learned quite a bit about their needs. It was through our work with these groups that we were inspired to create the BISSELL Pet Foundation,” said Cathy Bissell, founder of the foundation and director of corporate affairs for BISSELL. “Animal shelters and rescue groups play such a large role in their communities and often have limited resources. The Foundation looks forward to supporting their efforts related to adoption, spaying/neutering, micro-chipping and foster care programs, which all help to reduce the number of homeless pets.”

Support for the foundation is a natural extension for BISSELL, where more than 72 percent of employees are pet owners. BISSELL’s research has shown that 38 percent of Americans would adopt a pet if clean-up were easier, so it develops nearly every product with pet messes in mind, ultimately seeking to increase adoption rates. The BISSELL Pet Foundation aims to raise $250,000 annually for charities that support animal welfare.

In addition to partnerships with organizations like Petfinder.com, BISSELL has supported the pet community in past years through contributions to more than 100 U.S. pet charities totaling over $200,000 annually. The company is committed to providing pet owners with effective, easy-to-use pet clean-up products, including pet hair vacuums, deep cleaning machines, sprays and formulas.

Among the company’s most popular pet products are the SpotBot® Pet, the only handsfree portable deep cleaning system that, with the touch of a button, removes pet stains from the base of the carpet where they can reside, and the Lift-Off® Multi-Cyclonic Pet Vacuum, which combines the power of an upright and the versatility of a canister to tackle pesky pet hair.
