Rated 1 out of 5 by Pat44 Brush not spinning
Vacuum is over a year old. Worked fine last time I used it. Today the brush will not spin. Read manual and checked belt and cleaned filters. Made sure vacuum is sitting properly. No luck. It appears the motor for the brush is not working. Will check consumer reports and buy a replacement.

I researched vacuum cleaners and decided on this one because we have a thick, deep carpet that does not allow other vacuums to glide easily - this one works well since you can adjust the settings. A piece broke after only 3 uses, but Bissell replaced it under warranty - I just hope that this is not an indication as to the quality of the machine! I would give it 5 stars except for the broken part but I am hoping it will work well for years to come!
The only other thing I want to mention - when picking up pet fur, the dust cup becomes very staticy, so I wipe the dust cup down with a fabric softener sheet to try to cut back on the static.

Just purchased the machine and only used it once. Easy to put together, like being able to turn off the beater brush for hardwood floors. Noticed it picked up alot of fine dust from my carpets. When brush is on it pulls easily forward but takes energy to pull it back which is not a problem for myself but my elderly mother would not be able to handle it. Am pleased with the purchase and look forward to using it for many years. Seems like a very sturdy machine plus I feel safe with the Bissell reputation.

I had no problems putting the vacuum together and it picks up animal hair great. I have two large dogs and three cats that shed horribly and the vacuum gets it all up with no problem. I am so happy that I got this vacuum.

Rated 5 out of 5 by PATZ5652 AWESOME!
This vacuum has amazing deep cleaning capacity and is gentle when it needs to be. While I have two rooms & stairs with carpeting, the rest of the house is adobe style tile covered by rugs, 2 being large orientals (not silk). I was unsure how well the vacuum & the rugs would "get along". Having hand carried them from Istanbul they have great meaning to me. Also, they hadn't been cleaned in about 10 yrs when the custom cleaner retired. My concern was needless. This vacuum deep cleaned both the wool and the cotton without incident and they look like new! As to the carpeting, I completely agree with the other reviews. The amount of DIRT being extracted is amazing. Since, I now live in a "dirt bowl" known as Simi Valley, CA, I can finally enjoy the comfort of a truly clean house. What a relief! Thanks Bissell. P.S. Keeping all the filters clean is important. That's why the 15 yr. old vacuum for my NYC apt (no carpet) is still going strong. It just wasn't designed for the cleaning I need here.

This vacuum picks up everything. As a test, I ran my canister vac over the rug, then re-vacuumed with this upright - I couldn't believe all the hair and dust that the canister missed. I love this vac!

Rated 5 out of 5 by peggy00 2 vacuums for the price of 1
This is the 3rd bissell vacuum cleaner in a row i have purchased, and with each new one i got i would try to replace the exact one never thinking they could improve the current one at the time i needed it to find out different. I have wall to wall carpet and hardwood steps, i suffer with severe back problems and the ease with which there is in removing the detachable canister to do the steps has had no bearing whatsoever on my condition. I have had dogs for as long as i have had my bissell pet friendly vacuums and i'm positive i will remain a bissell customer forever. I have also used the turbo eraser attachment on other things in my home e.g., curtains, coats, car interior. In the very near future i hope to purchase a carpet cleaner as my new vacuum has such deep cleaning suction it has started to show carpet stains i was not aware of but with 6 grandchildren age 5 and under in my house 5 days a week is totally understandable. When looking for my new vacuum on your web page you couldn't have made it any easier for me to know exactly where i could go to purchase it as i didn't even want to wait a couple of days for it to be delivered and when i brought it home once again i was amazed at the ease of use and thorough cleaning it did. Your forever customer thanks you.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Happy Baker Good for short term
I have two children and two Siberian huskies who regularly blow their coats, so a vacuum that can handle lots of debris and fur is a must. When I first brought my Bissell home, I was thrilled. It did such an amazing job--my floors never looked cleaner, and the dirt bin was easy to empty.
We've had it for 3 years now, and it's starting to go downhill. We regularly pull out the dirt bin and the filter above and clean them out thoroughly, but fur still gets sucked up and stuck in the filter instead of emptying into the bin, and I have to reach up and pull it out, which spreads fur and dust and dirt flying everywhere and I have to vacuum again. It's a gross mess.
I think it's time to replace it, and I'm not sure I'll buy another Bissell. It was great in the beginning, but this is just causing a headache every time I have to vacuum.

Rated 3 out of 5 by judyschu pet eraser doesn't last
The vacuum works fine, but people should be prepared to spend $30 every year or two for a new pet eraser tool. All it needs is a little belt, but you can't buy just the belt. You have to buy the whole tool. I recommend Sears. At least they have parts.

Rated 5 out of 5 by R&D One of the best uprights we've ever owned.
This model is one of the best all around uprights out there. We've always owned Hoover or Kenmore but have to thank our neighbor for pointing us to this one. They have a dog like ours and decided to purchase the Bissell Lift-Off. They were so happy with it that we decided to investigate and try it ourselves. We are very glad we did and have been pleased with the amount of suction and power it has. But most of all, we LOVE the detachable canister. It allows you to clean almost anywhere and picks up pet hair better than anything else we've used in the past. After more then a year of use, it's holding up well and we're still happy owners. Proper maintenance is the key. Keep BOTH filters clear and this vacuum will perform good as ever. Care should be used when cleaning some of the dirt canister parts. We had to replace the inner cyclone after some rough handling broke the plastic tabs, but the replacement part was fairly inexpensive at the Bissell.com web site. Overall, it's still a peach of a vacuum for the money and we would not hesitate to buy another one.

This is by far one of the best machines I have used and bought. I am extremly happy! I have friends and family that can be stubborn and not listen to me and buy this model. They just keep buying other barnds andf models... They have gone through so many vacuum's when if they had bought this one in the first place they would saved alot of money in the long run. You will be amazed with this machine as I am.

I have used this vacuum in my cleaning business for
10 yrs. It has been the best overall vacuum I have yet to use. In my business no vacuum can last more than a year regardless of how much it cost. I like the convenience of two machines in one. The only things which could be improved is the cord wrap (sometimes it will not stay up) and the height adjustment.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Cat123 Really good machine
This machine is great! My favorite feature is the ability to clean all the different elements of the machine without having to have 3 hands or be Houdini. So many machines out there now don't give you the ability to clean the machine. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is the carpet level feature. It seems they've set the carpet levels too high. I have standard cut loop wall-to-wall carpeting and yet I have to set it at the second to the lowest carpet level. Otherwise, really happy with this product. Especially love the pet hair attachment, which I use to clean the dog pillows. This is the only pet hair attachment I've seen that is logically rubber flippers instead of a brush. The last vacuum I had with a pet hair attachment I ended up throwing the attachment away because the brush couldn't be cleaned of the dog hair, which made it useless. This Bissell designer used their noggin in making rubber flippers, which work just as well, yet don't clog up with dog hair. Cudos to you also for making the attachments go INSIDE the hose. The old style of OUTSIDE the hose ended up with most attachments getting caught on something and falling off (usually under the couch where I couldn't reach it). This is just an extremely well-designed vacuum and the lift-off feature is muchly appreciated. Would definitely buy again (and probably will).

Rated 4 out of 5 by dahdee Works great and has easy maintenance
I purchased this vacuum 3 years ago, when our household increased to include 4 cats and a dog, in addition to two children. My old vacuum just wasn't up to the task of all the pet hair. I went out to buy a new vacuum, and the salesman recommended this one rather than the more expensive brand I initially thought I would purchase. He said that not only was it great at picking up pet hair, but it was rarely brought in for repairs.
After using it for 3 years, I love it. The long cord reaches several rooms from one outlet. The detachable canister is great for cleaning the stairs...they are vacuumed much more often now! The pet eraser that comes with it does a really good job.
The only cons are that it doesn't come with the stair tool, so I've been using the pet eraser, which then becomes clogged very quickly and needs a lot of cleaning out. (I just ordered the stair tool...should help a bit.) For me the worst part is the hose. I think it's stiff and hard to work with and doesn't reach very far, so the canister is always in danger of falling down.
All in all, it's a great vacuum that does an amazing job. I just empty out the dirt after doing each room, and when it hums a higher pitch, I know to clean out the rest of it. It's also easy to push and fairly light weight, so it's easy to carry up and down the stairs, in either one piece or two! I've recommended this vacuum to all my friends with pets.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Holden 10 This is a very user friendly vaccum.
I am extremely pleased with this vaccum. We have 4 cats and are amazed at what the suction is pulling out of our carpets. The weight is just right not being too heavy or light, not having to push which helps with my back. It is very easy to clean the 3 containers collecting the dirt, and all attachments are right where you need them. My husband had no problems obtaining extra supplies with a quick delivery.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Barbwire47 Finally, a vacuum that works for me!
I have had my Lift-Off Multi Cyclonic Pet Vacuum for about 3 weeks now and it is great. I also purchased the Pet Turbo Brush - it came with Pat Turbo Eraser. I still want to purchase the floor tool & pet grooming kit. It works great in both RV & truck. It is a bit on the heavy side & the hose could be about 1ft. longer but all in all it is a good vacuum that did not break the bank. Also the Bissell site is very helpful & easy to maneuver around.

On first use I was shocked at the amount of fine dirt picked up by the vac. The ability to raise and lower the level of the brush to meet carpeting type or just bare floor is an added plus. I was drawn to this model for the detachable canister which has worked great and makes the stair job much easier and more safe. I just saw the suggestion to add another wand to extend the reach and I'm going to try that out. The cord is extra long. Cleaning out the cup is a breeze. Just need to make sure you clean the cyclone above it every once in a while as well. I also just recently cleaned the main brush and it was so simple to get to and reassemble.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Shannalee29 Read your book! There is a 2nd part to clean out you won't know about without reading your book!
We have a German Shepherd and long haired cat at our house. We got this vacuum and I was amazed at the suction. The handheld piece for furniture I also used on the stair carpeting. It was amazing! However, after 3 months the handheld piece would barely rotate and the suction was next to nothing. I decided to read the book (didn't think I would have to when it came to a vacuum cleaner). I AM SO GLAD I DID! . When you remove the part to empty the dirt, there is a piece above that you can unscrew. We took ours out and the holes were all plugged. We cleaned that all off and the vacuum was back to brand new. I have never seen another vacuum like this where you could get into the inner workings to completely clean it out. Amazing Bissell! Thank you! Now that we know where this part is we clean that out every other time we vacuum!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Greg Great value!
We just received our vacuum and used it once and so far it works well at picking up my dogs hair which is very long even for a Golden Retriever mix. It also has very good suction for an upright. It has a heavy/solid feel to it which I wanted. This is our first bagless vac and the dirt cup is easy to deal with. I also just ordered the ShedAway Pet Grooming attachment with a built-in curry comb to deal with his hair so we will see how that helps.

This pet vacuum is unbelievable, The rug I vacuumed was 5'x8' and only 2 weeks old and had just been vacuumed with my old vacuum cleaner, would you believe I had to empty the new pet vacuum 3 times before I was done. THANK YOU FOR SUCH A GREAT VACUUM.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Lorna Not perfect but does a good job!
I've had my lift-off for about 6 months. I'm very happy with the strength of the suction and the ease of cleaning. I also love that if I vacuum up an important toy, I can get it back without sifting through a vacuum bag! The lift-off capability is the best! I purchased the bare floor tool, and it's so easy to carry the canister around as I vacuum all of my bare floors.
The things that keep this vacuum from being 5 stars are the pet turbo brush and the length of the extension wand. The turbo brush only spins if there is absolutely no reduction in suction. So once some of the dog hair gets onto the filter, it doesn't operate anymore. I think the company would have been better off including the pet contour tool instead. The extension wand is too short when used with the bare floor attachment. I am only five foot seven, but I have to either bend forward or hold the wand by the hose at very top to walk comfortably and vacuum my bare floors. Despite these inconveniences, I would recommend this vacuum. The lift-off is very versatile and gets my carpets and bare floors very clean!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Berry 107 Great suction and features
Bissell vaccums have good suction. I have an old one and the suction still works. I decided to buy this one because of the new feature "Lift-Off" which is very handy for vaccuming my car.
Dog hair in the carpet is not a problem. You can see how much dog hair is picked up by the vac, hair that you can't even see on the carpet. This vac is perfect for all our needs.

I have had this sweeper for about 2 years. It has been great and pick up everything. Only now it is starting to blow dirt everywhere. I have cleaned it all out and cleaned all filters. However it still blows out the back very bad. I can see the latch door for the back filter actually pulling apart some.

Used this new vacum right behind our other more expensive vacum and picked up so much stuff from the carpet It leaves us wondering how the other vacum could miss so much. We thought we had done a very good job of vacuming with our old vacum, so we ran it over the carpet sseveral times. Never again will we think just because it has a name that is supposed to be top of the line and expensive to be good. This Bissell put it to shame. From now on if it doesn't say Bissell, we won't buy it.

We bought this vacuum about 2 years ago for our house cleaner. She is so sweet, never complained. Unfortunately now we do not have her any longer I have to vacuum. Not only is it heavy but there is so much dirt, dust and hair after vacuuming, it just seems to blow everywhere. Also, the attachment for stairs and furniture does not have any suctions and the roller does not roll :(

Rated 2 out of 5 by R.M.H. Cheaply made
I purchased this vacuum about 2 years ago and within 2 months it gave off a burning odor. Here the roll brush had frozen and would NOT rotate. My husband was able to fix it eventually. The top hook that holds the cord has also broken. The most recent thing that broke was the internal clip or latch that releases the handle so that the vacuum will become engaged rather than in the upright position. It has broken and now the vacuum easily tips over. I do regret purchasing this vacuum. It seems cheaply made. However, if you're looking for sucking power, it does suck up well.
