I just got my new Lift -Off multi pet vacuum yesterday and could not wait to get it out of the box. I was ready to have problems putting it together from some of the reviews I read but that was not the case. Really didn't even have to look at the manuel. Two screws and everything else just clicks into place. The first thing I did was my hardwood floors and then took off the canister and did my carpeted stairs. What a pleasure. My old canister vacuum did not have a stair attachment, the cord was not long enough as my stair case is a U shape with two landings. I would have to do them in sections. First the top, plugged in upstairs and then carry everything down and re-plug in downstairs and work my way back up. Hated the stairs. Now with my new vacuum the cord is long enough that I can vacuum part of the hall on the second floor. My stairs will be vacuum much more now. Also love having all the tools on board. My last canister I had to change the hose from carpet to hard surface also had to go and get attachments when I needed them. If it's that much work your not always going to do the best job. The Crevice tool is long and narrow which is great for getting into the lint trap in the dryer. Also like the telescoping extension wand, make it whatever size you need. So looking forward to vacuum everything.
The other nice feature is the dirt that I got up was the real fine stuff, that you see under your carpet when you are replacing it. The suction is great! Love my Vac!

I purchased this vacuum 5 months ago and it works okay but there are some design features I don't like and don't work well. First off, they designed this vacuum so you can vacuum a hard wood floor using it the regular way instead of using the attachments. What they don't understand is no vacuum will work well to pick up pet hair using it in normal mode. Not much hair would get picked up so using the attachments with the hose is essential in picking up all pet hair. The hose on the vacuum doesn't work well because they didn't think people would use it on wooden floors or hard surfaces. The hose doesn't pull out that much and snaps back pinching my hand. The attachments don't work well so I had to go out and buy different attachments. The wand was really short making it a back braking job to bend over and vacuum the floor. The suction is okay all though my old bag vacuum pulled more suction.
It doesn't seem like any other brands care about the consumer using the attachments. I would love to help design these things because they just don't know what we really need. Now I digress. Next time I buy a vacuum I will make sure I can see how it works in person.

Rated 1 out of 5 by #nastycarpet Great for six months and then lost all of its suction.
Very bummed out about this vacuum. I purchased the red lift off a few years ago and it worked great. I ended up buying this one and giving my red one to another family member. For six months this vacuum was the same as far as the red one was. Nice features, I enjoyed the lift off technology for cleaning the stairs and made use out of all of the attachments. I always made sure to clean my filters and replace the hepa filter on the back. The bristles wore down (even with proper floor setting adjustments) and it lost all suction power. It couldn't even vacuum a small feather up, it actually picked it up briefly and spit it back out onto the carpet. Maybe mine had a defect in it. This one didn't have the blockage indicator that the red lift off had, but even so it performed poorly in comparison to the red lift off that wasn't meant for pets. Our family has a friend who works for Bissell and apparently there have been other issues with this vacuum as well which is sad considering the price.

I bought this vacuum (Bissell Lift-Off 89Q9) because of the recommendations I found on the internet that it would work on the soft plush carpets. I had new carpets put in my home a couple of weeks ago, and my vacuum wouldn't even move on it. I have been through 3 other vacuums, buying them and then taking them back - the Dyson, Shark, Eureka and my old one was a Dirt Devil. Nothing would move on that new carpet. My husband could push it with the greatest effort, but I could hardly move it at all. Today I got this vacuum and we were almost afraid to put it together and try it, but it works like a dream. Just glides over the carpet, and I don't even have it on the highest setting. So I am very pleased with that. I cannot say how it will be in the long run, but right now am thankful for a vacuum that will clean my carpet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by ronm57 No stink from dogs when you turn it on
This is the first vacuum I've had that doesn't smell like the dogs when I turn it on. I have tried many different vacuums over the years including a very expensive Dyson. I've had mine for a couple of years now. We have 2 dogs that shed like crazy and this never stinks when you turn it on!! It picks up great and I love the lift off feature. I just had to order a replacement extension wand because a plastic ring inside cracked but it was a reasonable amount .

Has anyone used this carpet on the new Smartstrand Silk Carpet? Does it work or eat up the carpet? Just purchased a whole home full of Smartstrand Silk only to find our recently purchased vacuum by another company is "too powerful" to use??????

Rated 1 out of 5 by Jam2it Felt bushing wear rapidly
Only been using this vacuum sparingly. The felt bushings that space the brush head to the vacuum are worn out. Making the plastic parts rub and the vacuum not usable. Very badly designed. Would not recommend. It is and throw away carpet vacuum.

Just purchased my second one of these. Won't ever use any other brand or model. The detachable canister has me spoiled. I buy the floor accessory and away I go. Live on the Texas Gulf Coast with rescue dogs and cats who track in sand so I am constantly vacuuming my tile and wood floors. It's so convenient to just carry the canister around while I clean up after them. If you haven't experienced the convenience of a detachable canister you are missing out. This is a wonderful vacuum and worth every penny. Buy it, you won't regret the investment.
