i make 3 categories. need/keep, trash and sell.  yard sale the sell pile and whatever doesn't go gets a FREE sign or ends up trash anyway. but why not try to make a few bucks in the process.

usually i invite a few friends or my mom to join my yard sale. everyone has some stuff they can get rid of.

Instead of a garage sale, give it to charity, a friend, a coworker, etc.  Just remember to tell them you do not want it back, just pass it on.

clutter can be a very ugly problem..lighten your life by getting rid of STUFF you really do not need or rule is ...if it does not serve a purpose it's gone.....we bog ourselves down with too much stuff that has do be dusted, get rid of it

paperwork such as paystubs, bills etc. need to go after the year is over.  If you haven't worn, played with or used it in 6 months, it's gone.  If it's missing pieces or disfigured in any way it needs to go.

Our rule is if you have not played with, touched, or worn an item in 6 months, it is time for us to give it to our local thrift store

Stuff like bank statements, bills ect. I keep the past 3 months. I try to shred all of that stuff but if I dont have access to a shredder, I tear or cut it up and put into multiple bags. I am horrible about keeping stuff but since we just moved I made myself get rid of alot of stuff. My problem is storing all that sentimental stuff.

If I haven't used it for over a year I get rid of it....unless it's sentimental. =)

I do not have to worry about getting rid of anything because of this economic crisis we are living in I do not have any extra things to get rid of.
