Question:  What is under the carpeting?  Vinyl tile or sheet goods or ???  If so, I would just pull the carpeting up exposing the vinyl tile or other flooring.  Then if you wanted, you could use bathroom throw rugs which can be laundered every so often.

I know what you are talking about as we went thru the same thing when we moved into this house 13years ago...only worse.  Previous owners had a 3 year old little boy, who didn't have much control and "sprinkled" all around the toilet!

The smell was bad.  Tried everything but nothing worked to take the smell away.  So, one day, pulled up a corner of the carpeting to see what was underneath and fold that there was "no wax vinyl sheet goods" underneath.  It was in great shape and a neutral pattern so...UP CAME THE CARPETING!
