Im not so sure on grease unless you use alittl dawn dish soap but one of my children dropped blue gum on my leopard print area rug and then it was mushed and stepped on many times and I just now took my steam shot machine and the little green detail brush and the gum melted, brushed right up and them came out of the brush with ZERO effort..IM IMPRESSED!

Try spraying it with WD-40 or Lifter 1.  Both are wonderful on grease and/or tar stains.
