Cleaning up dog poop & dog throwup in the House!!!

Posted on 3/11/10 at 9:04 PM By Emily Clifton | 13 Replies

I absolutely hate to clean up all the little accidents that our dogs have in the house!!! Waking up to a pile of dog poop in the bathroom is unbearable!!!

We have two little Boston Terriers and they are getting up there in years, new solution is that they both wear disposable diapers when they are in the house!!!! They really do look adorable in their little Huggies!!

Well, I don't know if that would work for my large dogs but if it helps great!  I am fortunate, my two dogs are getting up in years but can go 6-8 hours before needing to go out.  If they have to before then, they'll nudge me.  The throwing up is an issue.  Just try and watch what they are doing outside in the yard.  Remember, dogs are scavengers by nature and I've had my share of issues.  We do use a Bissell product which works pretty good at removing stains and smell but without going to the product list, I can't recall it's name.  But, I wouldn't hesitate to try one of Bissell's cleaning products.

Cat fur balls are quite nice, especially the really long ones that look like something else. I also cover anything warm with a gob of paper towels until it's hard and cool and then clean it up.
My husband and I are constantly at odds about this. The animals eat grass when they're outside then come inside to "cough it up." He says don't let them eat grass. I say (cuz this is what I've heard many vets say) the grass is natural fiber and cleanser for them; it also tries to fill in for something they're missing in their diets. So, they need to eat it. Anybody really have an answer?

Eww yes this would be a bit much. I can barely do that with my cat. He does get sick sometimes like a dog. I would have to say that I like to wait until the warmth of it is gone. That's the part that grosses me out the most. I throw paper towels over it and wait . Then I can pick it up in once scoop usually not having to do much because it's stuck to the 100's of paper towels I've thrown down. So I can avoid even looking. Ugg I'm getting naseated now.Ugg

Crate the dogs at night, then when you let them out take them outside immediately, just like you would a young puppy.  If they do potty and poop, then reward them with the freedom of the house for a couple of hours, then re-crate them until they signal they have to go again.  Then take them out, etc.  If they only potty, put them on leash and keep the leash around your wrist so you can keep an eye on them (we call this the ubilical technique).  They only get off-lead freedom when they have both pottied and pooped outside.  When older dogs get incontinent it is time to question the quality of life they have.

Heavily saturate any area they use to potty or poop with vinegar.  Then rinse with water, shampoo and if vinegar smell still remains, use a 50/50 solution of water and lemon juice to neutralize the vinegar smell.

The hotter the water used for shampooing, the better according to my husband.

Try using a baby gate! We gate our older dog upstairs with us at night and it has stopped her accidents at night all together!

Just be happy they go on the bathroom floor.  My guys are also old and think the dining room carpet is the lawn. He tore off his diaper so wejust use pads and a spot cleaner
