My four and five-year-old sons decided to take their markers to my gray carpets! Nothing will get it out. Any suggestions?
Answer: The best way to get rid of your sons’ artwork would be to start with a detergent-based cleaner, like Tough Stain Pre-treat for Carpet & Upholstery. Since this formula has lots of soap in it, it will help to dissolve away some of the marker and remove it from your carpet fibers.
After that, use an oxygen-based cleaner like OxyPro®. These types of cleaners have oxygen molecules that love to “eat” away at color. The oxygen treatment is the more important step in this process, so if you can only use one definitely go with the OxyPro®.
Do not use Tough Stain Pre-treat for Carpet & Upholstery after using OxyPro®, since the soapy solution will dissolve the oxygen molecules that will help rid your carpet of the marker color, making it less effective.
