My Lift Off 2-in-1, Model 1189 series stick vac has no suction or is blowing dust. What do I check?

Answer: If your unit has no suction, please check the following:

  • Make sure the foot is fully inserted into the body of the unit and also make sure the hand vac is fully locked into place on the body of the unit.
  • Detach the hand vac from the body of the unit.
  • Make sure the dirt container is empty.

  • Make sure the dirt cup is properly attached to the hand vac.  Make sure the two lips on the battery pack clip in place with the two horizontal holes in the dirt cup (one on each side).  They should click properly into place and the dirt cup should have no space between where the dirt cup meets the battery pack.

  • Detach the hand vac from the body of the unit. Remove dirt container from hand vac (see picture under “make sure the dirt container is empty) & power the unit on to check for suction at the motor duct.

    • If no suction at the motor duct, please contact BISSELL Consumer Care at 1-800-237-7691 Monday – Friday 8:00 am – 10:00 pm EST, Saturday 9:00 am – 8:00 pm EST, Sunday 10:00 am – 7:00 pm EST.
  • With the hand vac removed, turn the power on and check for suction at the end of the nozzle.
    • If there is no suction…
      • Is the nozzle clogged?  If so, remove obstructions and check for suction again.

    • Is the Dirt Cup full?
      • If yes the dirt cup is full…
        • Empty the dirt cup.
    • If no, the Dirt Cup is Empty…
      • Are the filters dirty?
        • If yes…
          • Remove the dirt cup from the hand vac.
          • Pull out the separator, which contains the filters from the middle of the Dirt Cup.
          • Pull out the white pleated filter and tap this over the garbage or outside.  NOTE: This filter is not washable.
          • Pull out the black foam filter that was located under the white pleated filter.  NOTE:  This black foam filter may be washed but must be allowed to air dry before putting it back into the debris bin cup.

  • Open the clear cap of the separator (goes inside the dirt cup) and wipe away any debris and clean out the cup.

  • Remove foot assembly & check for clogs:

  • Is the foot assembly locked into place? You should hear it “click” into place when it’s installed properly on the unit.
  • Is the unit full charged? If not, please refer to “No Power” for charging instructions.
    • If the unit still has little or no suction, please contact BISSELL Consumer Care at 1-800-237-7691 Monday – Friday 8:00 am – 10:00 pm EST, Saturday 9:00 am – 8:00 pm EST, Sunday 10:00 am – 7:00 pm EST.

If your unit is blowing dust, please check the following troubleshooting:

  • Is the dirt container full?
    • If yes, the dirt container is full…
      • Empty dirt container.
    • If no, the dirt container is empty…
      • Check to make sure filter is not missing and make sure both filters are installed correctly into the debris bin cup (Foam filter goes underneath the white pleated filter).
      • Is either filter is missing? If so they will need to be ordered.
  • Are the filters dirty?
    • If yes, the filters are dirty…
          • Remove the dirt cup from the hand vac.
          • Pull out the separator, which contains the filters from the middle of the Dirt Cup.
          • Pull out the white pleated filter and tap this over the garbage or outside.  NOTE: This filter is not washable.
          • Pull out the black foam filter that was located under the white pleated filter.  NOTE:  This black foam filter may be washed but must be allowed to air dry before putting it back into the debris bin cup.

  • Is the dirt container latched securely?
    • If no, the dirt container is not latched securely…
      • Remove dirt container & reinstall. You should hear it “click” into place on the hand vac body.
    • If unit is still blowing dust, please contact BISSELL Consumer Care at 1-800-237-7691 Monday – Friday 8:00 am – 10:00 pm EST, Saturday 9:00 am – 8:00 pm EST, Sunday 10:00 am – 7:00 pm EST.
