My Lift-Off® Deep Cleaner won't spray. What can I do?

Answer: Let's start by figuring out where your carpet cleaner can spray. Check for spray from the hose and at the floor. If you have spray at just one of them, you can scroll down to find some troubleshotting steps for your situation. If you don't have any spray at all, start below:

1. First, check the trigger for tension.

  1. If the trigger has tension, try uninstalling and reattaching the handle to make sure it aligns with no visible gaps. There should be a sticker on the back of the cleaner detailing how to install (or uninstall) the handle.
  2. If the trigger has no tension, please take your cleaner to a technician. You can find your nearest BISSELL® Authorized Service Center by clicking http://www.bissell.com/service-centers/ or by calling 1-800-237-7691, available 24 hours a day.

2.  Check the bottom of the clean tank for any deformities.  The tank should be flat all the way across, no "bumps" or "curves" in the tank (see pictures below).  If the tank is "deformed" please contact BISSELL Consumer Care at 1-800-237-7691 for further assistance.

3. Is there water and solution in the clean tank?

Note the tank features fill instructions for clarity.

4.  Is the clean tank seated properly on unit and the auto-load gasket in place correctly?

        a. If the gasket is missing, check inside the pod for the missing gasket (with the water tank removed). The gasket can be removed with a  flathead screw driver by gently wiggling out of the base of the machine.

5.  With water in the tank, hold tank over sink and press upward on the x-valve.

    a. Does tank release water? If it doesn’t, you’ll need to get a new cap. You can order one by clicking here: http://www.bissell.com/parts/?sc=part&productid=26940&partid=23941

     b. If the tank does release water, go to step 5.

6.  Is the portable spot cleaner pod completely attached to the base of the machine correctly with no gaps? You’ll need to push down firmly on both sides of the pod so each side clicks in. A good way to test if your pod is attached is by picking up the whole machine using the pod’s handle.

7. Next, check to see if there’s spray through the hose. Note: please remove the pod from the base first.

  1. If you can spray through the hose, please go on to step 7.
  2. If you can’t spray through the hose, let’s start by removing the tool on the end of the hose and then seeing if it can spray. If it can, the tool is clogged. Try cleaning out the spray-tip on the tool (found on the oblong bump on the end closest to the bristles) with a paper clip.
  3. Try stretching the hose out by giving it a few light tugs to release any kinks in the water supply hose. Be sure to disconnect the pod from the base when following this step.
  4. If the above steps fixed the spray for your hose, but you still can’t spray through the base, go on to step 7.
  5. If your hose still can’t spray, at this point it might be best to take your cleaner to a technician. You can find your nearest BISSELL Authorized Service Center by clicking http://www.bissell.com/service-centers/ or by calling 1-800-237-7691, available 24 hours a day.

8. Check to see if the solution filter is clogged:

  1. First, step on the release pedal and remove the pod.
  2. Unscrew the red solution filter cap on the base of the machine by inserting a coin or flathead screwdriver into the slot on the top.

   d.   Replace the white filter back into the machine- making sure the filter is seated properly into the base before the red solution filter cap is inserted and tightened.

   e.    Insert red cap and tighten by turning clockwise.

9. Now let’s check and clean the spray tips for debris and clogs:

  1. Step on the release pedal and remove the pod.
  2. Press on the tabs to lift out the spray tips (located on either side of the clear bristle window).

   c.     Once the spray tips are lifted out, they may be brushed with an old toothbrush, soaked in warm water or rinsed in warm water to remove the debris/clog.
   d.     Replace the spray tips back into the base by reversing the steps. They will hear them ‘click’ into place when they are snapped in properly.

10. If you still can’t spray out of the base, at this point it might be best to take your cleaner to a technician. You can find your nearest BISSELL Authorized Service Center by clicking http://www.bissell.com/service-centers/ or by calling 1-800-237-7691, available 24 hours a day.

5. Stretch the hose out and give it a few light tugs to release any kinks in the internal water supply hose. Turn the pod on and try pumping the trigger for 1 minute to dislodge any debris in the lines. Please make sure to remove the pod from the base before performing this step.

6. If you still can’t spray out of the base, at this point it might be best to take your cleaner to a technician. You can find your nearest BISSELL Authorized Service Center by clicking http://www.bissell.com/service-centers/ or by calling 1-800-237-7691, available 24 hours a day.

Start here if you can spray from the base, but there's no spray from the hose:

1. Is the pod connected to the base? If the pod is connected to the base, please disconnect the pod from the base to use the hose.

2. Remove the tool on the end of the hose and see if the hose will spray. If the hose sprays when an attachment is not connected, then the tool is clogged.  Try cleaning out the spray-tip on the tool (found on the oblong bump on the end closest to the bristles) with a paper clip.
