I seem to be experiencing low suction on my PowerForce. What should I check?

Answer: Please try the following troubleshooting suggestions to get your machine to suction properly. Prior to beginning, please remove the electrical cord from the outlet.

Your BISSELL PowerForce vacuum has strong suction power to keep your environment healthier and cleaner. This vacuum will accumulate dirt and debris that may have been left from previous cleanings. To keep the machine suctioning properly, this accumulation of dirt and debris must be cleaned from the filters frequently. Check the pre-motor filter (located underneath the bag) and post-motor filter (located on the side of the vacuum) to see if they are dirty. If these filters are dirty, it will restrict the air-flow. These filters can be hand-washed in warm water and mild detergent. Please allow them to dry completely before re-installing them. If you have the Multi-Layer Post Motor, this is not washable.

Check to see if the bag is more than half full. If so, install a new bag. Also, check the suction opening behind the bag for clogs. With the PowerForce vacuum, the dirt travels through the hose to the bag. It is important to keep the hose clean to allow proper air flow. To check for possible clogs, remove the upholstery hose from the back of the machine. Insert a broom stick handle in one end of the hose, pushing any clog or debris through. At the foot of the machine is a small curved hose. Release the screw holding this hose in place and remove any dirt. These maintenance steps provide you with a strong suctioning machine in order to keep your environment clean and healthy.

If these suggestions do not solve the suction problem for you, please check the following:

 1) Check to ensure the hose is firmly connected on the rear of the vacuum.

2) Remove the access plate and inspect the brush and brush belt. Clean any string or debris that may have collected around the brush and check the air-passage behind the brush for clogs.

If you continue to experience difficulty, please have your machine inspected at a local BISSELL Authorized Service Center. BISSELL provides you with a one year warranty on this machine. The BISSELL warranty does not include cleaning or removing clogs. There will be a charge for this service.
